Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides arrived in Lebanon, where he met with President Joseph Aoun. During the meeting, the two countries officially signed the maritime border demarcation agreement, marking a significant step in defining their respective Exclusive Economic Zones.

President Aoun stated that “the delineation of the economic zone between Lebanon and Cyprus will enable both countries to properly benefit from and develop the resources within this area.”

Today we celebrate the signing of the maritime border demarcation agreement with Cyprus — a milestone that enables both our countries to begin exploring and developing our offshore oil resources. I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to making this achievement possible.

He emphasized that Lebanon’s cooperation with Cyprus is “not directed against any country, excludes no partners, and does not obstruct the interests of any neighbor or ally.”

Aoun also expressed Lebanon’s aspiration to strengthen its strategic partnership with the European Union, particularly in areas of economic cooperation and regional stability.

For his part, Cypriot President Christodoulides described the signing as “a strategic achievement that reflects the depth and maturity of the relationship between our two nations.”
